In this last encounter between Jesus and the socio-religious / political parties of his day, we see Jesus once again responding to silence the adversary. This chapter in Mark emphasizes Jesus' control over his future and his mission to give his life upon the cross.
In this section, Jesus is asked what the greatest commandment is. Jesus' response is a quotation of Deuteronomy 6, the Shema prayer. It is the eternal word of God still relevant to us today.
