The confession of Peter, that Jesus is the Messiah, at Caesarea Philippi, takes on a profound meaning when we understand the historical context of the location.

Mount Hermon is filled with satanic spiritual worship since the beginning of time. From a possible connection to the Nephilim in Genesis 6, to the worship of the Greek god Pan from the third century BC onward. In the first century, Herod Phillip, son of Herod the Great, renamed the spiritually adulterous site in honor of Caesar and himself, calling it Caesarea Philippi. This specific location was called the "Gates of Hell" by ancient pagans because of the pagan worship sites, including a cave dedicated to the god Pan, located there.
