There is no quick easy response but for the Christian worldview, our hope and response is in the historical reality of the resurrection of Jesus.

While Jesus was on earth he took a similar question from John the Baptist who was near death in prison. Jesus basically said to John, "I am the Messiah, don't lose faith in me just because I don't do what you want, how you want it, when you want it."
