Matthew 4 Jesus tempted in the desert

It is difficult to understand the New Testament without knowing the Old Testament background that reveals much of what Jesus said and did in proper context.

The temptation story in Matthew is a great example of Jesus demonstrating that where all humanity had failed to live up the standards of holiness, He will succeed. By resisting temptation and being holy, Jesus can make the sacrifice of atonement for our sins.

There is so much more going on in this passage than we first realize.
